PRELICENSURE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR RESIDENTIAL BUILDER AND MAINTENANCE & ALTERATION CONTRACTOR APPLICANTS

THE PROGRAM

This is a state-approved pre-licensure course providing 60 hours of required education needed in order to become a State of Michigan Residential Builder. The class covers an in-depth lecture that is live-streamed. A Residential Builder may build a new home from the ground up or may do any kind of repairs regulated under Act 299 of 1980 and The Michigan Residential Builder’s Code. A Residential Builder may contract for the whole job, but will have to subcontract plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work unless also licensed in those trades. Course material covers a portion of the Michigan Residential Builder exam's business/law and practice and trade portions.

At the end of this course, an exam must be passed in order to receive your certificate of completion.

PROCESS: A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION IS AWARDED TO STUDENTS THAT SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE COURSE. AFTER, YOU CAN OBTAIN AN INDIVIDUAL RESIDENTIAL BUILDER AND MAINTENANCE & ALTERATION CONTRACTOR LICENSE APPLICATION ON THE LARA WEBSITE. THEN, HE OR SHE MAY TAKE THE STATE EXAM WITH PSI EXAMS. THE APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH A COPY OF THE OFFICIAL CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION PROVIDED BY US AT DTC.
