Facility Maintenance

The Detroit Training Center’s Facility Maintenance Training Courses prepares students for work in the Facility Maintenance industry and is taught in three modules: Job Readiness, Trade Tools & Equipment, and Cleaning Processes. The Job Readiness module is lecture-based and focuses on the work life of a custodian. The Trade Tools & Equipment module is primarily hands on, and focuses on Personal Protective Equipment, and tool identification, usage, and best practices. The third module of the class addresses Cleaning Processes and includes a firm emphasis on Green Cleaning practices.

Introduction To Facility Maintenance

This class prepares students for work in the Facility Maintenance industry and will be taught in 3 modules: Job Readiness, Trade Tools & Equipment, and Cleaning Processes. The Job Readiness module is lecture-based and focuses on the work life of a custodian. Topics for this module include: safety, job performance, communication, professionalism, team participation, time allocation, customer service, and problem solving. The Trade Tools & Equipment portion is primarily hands on, and focuses on Personal Protective Equipment, cleaning cart and contents, mopping systems, chemicals, vacuums, floor buffers, auto scrubbers, brooms, dust pans, plungers, sponges & scratch pads, extension cords, dusters, detail brush, putty knife, door stops. The 3rd module of the class addresses Cleaning Processes and includes a firm emphasis on Green Cleaning practices. Topics include trashing, restrooms, locker rooms, showers, offices, classrooms, laboratories, clinics, stairwells, common areas, school gyms, windows, entryways, kitchens, exterior cleaning, and periodic cleaning. Facility Maintenance In The Medical Industry

This class focuses on additional considerations safety required for Facility Maintenance work in a medical setting to ensure safety of medical personnel patients, and custodial staff.. Students will receive extensive instruction in four different areas: Universal Precaution, OSHA Blood-Borne Pathogens, Management of Contagious Diseases, and Incident Reporting. Lecture and Hands On Training focuses on cleaning considerations and procedures at Medical Labs, Patient Rooms, Facility Hallways, Operating Rooms, Physical Therapy Facilities, Outpatient Facilities, Psychiatric Facilities, Long and Short Term Care Facilities, Adult Daycare Centers, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Retirement Homes, Health Clinics, Urgent Care Facilities.

Floor Technician Training

This class is specifically focused on proper techniques for floor cleaning and maintenance. It covers Stripping, Burnishing, Waxing, and all other floor maintenance techniques. It covers industry best practices for all flooring applications including Hard Wood, VTC Tile, Ceramic Tile, Marble, Terrazzo, Bare Concrete, Decorative Concrete, and Carpeting. It will cover equipment such as buffers, scrubbers, stripping machines, carpet cleaning machines, and all other floor care devices.
